Towards Nebulas (2022)
I. Lacrimosa, II. Panels
piccolo, six flutes, two alto flutes, two bass flutes, and contrabass flute
7'

I began writing this music as a meditation and prayer, simply seeking to enjoy the resonant mass of many flutes in harmony. Over time, my mind began to associate the beautiful and peaceful images of nebulas with what I was working on. I saw shifting, gaseous masses of color, unconcerned and timeless.

In the second movement, I imagined flashing lights on a switchboard. Perhaps this device is part of a spaceship, with views of the aforementioned nebulas from the outside. A mechanized dance, to complement the otherworldly and natural.
