Fades (2015)
solo flute
8'

Fades is a ghost story. I intended the music to be beautiful yet haunting, and similar in character to a will-o'-the-wisp. For instance, there are smooth, melodic passages, interrupted suddenly by mysterious flute glissandos, and other extended techniques. There is also a mood of decay in the composition. Material is gradually reduced by fragmentation and stagnation. My mother, an accomplished flautist, inspired me to write this piece.
